Some images capture you before you even know what they represent. Dylan Anderson's Silent Orbs Along Different Paths is one of them: architectural arches adorned with golden details against a deep burgundy background, a bright, absolute blue sky overflowing from the openings, and those dark, silent spheres floating at the edge of comprehension, somewhere between metaphysical painting and a waking dream.

Dylan Anderson's universe draws from a rigorous surrealist aesthetic where each element is both in and out of place. The precisely geometric arches with golden moldings give the image a solid, recognizable architecture, which the airy blue of the sky and the suspended orbs immediately destabilize. It is precisely this contrast between architectural order and the strangeness of the floating spheres that makes this work so hard to look away from, and therefore so engaging as a puzzle: one tries to understand what one is assembling at the same time as one assembles it. Classified as medium difficulty, its real challenge comes from the large areas of blue sky and solid burgundy surfaces that demand patience and method, before the image gradually forms with a very satisfying coherence. Printed in a limited edition of 600 copies and made in France on paper and cardboard from sustainably managed forests, the 1000 assembled pieces form an image of 49 x 68 cm that well deserves to be framed.

A puzzle for those who like the objects in their home to ask them questions.
