Elastic Mag The Dying Issue No.1 Magazine
Psychedelia has a small problem: it remains stuck in a '60s nostalgia bubble, often reduced to the image of young white people dancing halfheartedly to the Grateful Dead, as critic Emily Lordi points out in Hillary Brenhouse's intro.
Yet Elastic reminds us that this era was much more than just a transition from rock 'n' roll to punk: it was an explosion of artistic innovation. This first issue of the magazine takes the psychedelic spirit and modernizes it for the 21st century, with the theme of "death."
The program includes articles on infinite grief, self-effacement through sex and birth, the oddities of aging, and the tragedies in Gaza and Ukraine. Psychedelic design is also reinvented thanks to Chloe Scheffe and Natalie Shields, who imagine a vibrant bridge between the 1960s and our world today.
